BERLIN - German Health Experts asked without immediate success Friday to identify the source of a strain of e. coli spread alarm across Europe, which international officials have described as a variant of "Super-toxic" of infection.
In Berlin, disease control agency Institute Robert Koch said the number of cases reported to it seems to have reached its apogee around May 21 or 22. But, in a statement, the Institute said that because "notification and communication delays," a reduction in the number of reported new since then does not necessarily mean that the outbreak has been slow.
This assessment appeared at odds with remarks by Reinhard Brinkhorst, a specialist in Hamburg, who said that "the situation seems to have calmed somewhat, with regard to the number of new infections."
While the source says of the infection remains unknown, said of the Robert Koch Institute, a study conducted with health in Hamburg authorities - the German town North which seems to be the epicentre of the epidemic - concluded that the people who fell ill had been "consumers significantly more frequent lettuce, cucumbers and raw tomatoes" as a sample of healthy people.
But "it does was not clear if only one or more of these foodstuffs have been connected to the outbreak," said the statement. Initially, Germany blamed the outbreak on cucumbers organically grown of the Spain, but this assessment has been withdrawn subsequently, leaving furious Spanish farmers because their cultures of cucumbers were become unsaleable.
Compared to two days earlier, when the total number of persons who had fallen sick with e. coli or a potentially fatal complication, attacking the kidneys has been submitted to approximately 1,500 Institute said that Thursday was around 1,730, including 520 cases of the most threatening complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome.

Geneva, Thursday, the World Health Organization spokesman Gregory Hartl said, "what we understand is that it is a strain that has never been detected before outbreak." He said that "many laboratories" scientists were working to gather more information about the strain.
The origins of the epidemic, which killed at least 17 persons - 16 in Germany and Swedish which recently visited it - remain unknown. Ten countries have now reported, but almost all of them have been drawn north of the Germany, where the epidemic began several weeks ago.
Health Protection Agency Britain confirmed that the number of cases in Britain had increased to seven from three, with the bacteria present in people who had recently travelled in Germany.
The World Health Organization, said that Austria reported with 2 cases, Denmark 7, France 6, Netherlands 4, Norway 1, Spain 1, Sweden 28 and Switzerland 2. The organization said that all except two were persons who had recently visited the North of the Germany, or in any case, been in contact with a visitor of North Germany.
Initially optimistic on outbreak, German have expressed growing concern.
